The Oconee National Forest covers about 116,000 acres of rolling hills in the Georgia Piedmont and is adjacent to other state and federal lands. The nearby Bishop F. Grant Memorial Forest, Rock Eagle 4H Camp and Oconee Springs Forest are all managed by the University of Georgia; and the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. These adjacent lands expand the recreation and research opportunities in the region. Water-based recreation is also popular on Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair.
