As managers of Oregon's Malheur Field Station, Denzel and Nancy Ferguson introduced thousands of students, out-of-door enthusiasts, and tourists to the delight of public lands in the West. Now, the Fergusons are appealing to those people and the rest of the nation to rescue the public lands from the grip of an abusive and demanding minority - the open-range livestock industry. The Fergusons took an early retirement to write Sacred Cows at the Public Trough and to devote full time to freelance writing, photography, and other interests.
