The Shasta-Trinity National Forests contain picturesque Mt. Shasta and the Trinity-Alps, as well as Shasta Lake and Clair Engle Lake. At Shasta Lake you'll find Shasta Dam, the second largest dam in the United States. The McCloud River corridor is a developed recreation area that includes 18 miles of the Upper McCloud River. It features 3 large waterfalls, two developed campgrounds, and a riverside trail.

Mount Shasta is a 14,162 foot high dormant volcano designated a Registered Natural Landmark. Trinity Alps Wilderness is the second largest wilderness in California. The Alps boasts about 100 remote lakes and over 50 peaks above 7000-feet elevation. The Trinity River offers excellent opportunities for river running, ranging from expert levels to novice summer rafting fun. There are numerous campgrounds along the river and plenty of trout and salmon fishing too. Shasta Lake, the largest human-made lake in California, offers a wide variety of water based recreation opportunities. Shasta Lake is dotted with resorts and marinas and numerous National Forest campgrounds and boat ramps. Trinity Lake, surrounded by forested mountains has three marinas and numerous National Forest campgrounds and boat ramps. The Philpot Creek and Trail passes through a forest that was disturbed by the fires of 1987. As you explore the trail you will discover how a mixed conifer forest regenerates naturally and with human help after a wildfire. The Vistas in the Indian Valley-Butter Creek Area are particularly attractive to mountain bikers and equestrians during the spring and summer and to cross country skiers in the winter. These roads and trails pass through a diverse forest environment and the scenery is beautiful.
