Arizona Geological Highway Map
The Geologic Highway Map of Arizona is published jointly by the Arizona Geological Society and the Arizona Geological Survey, both located in Tucson. The Arizona Geological Society promotes and encourages interest in the geological sciences and the geology of Arizona. This is done through monthly meetings and geological publications. The Arizona Geological Survey, an agency of the State of Arizona, provides unbiased information to the public to enhance understanding of geological processes, materials, and resources and support prudent management and use of Arizona's land, water, mineral, and energy resources.
Each type of surface rock has a distinct color as in typical geologic maps, and a key at the side describes the composition of each "Geologic Map Unit." On the same side as the main map (and keyed to it) are geologic cross sections of seven diverse areas of the state showing "a geologist's interpretation of the subsurface geometry and thicknesses of different rock types." There are also four columnar sections, accompanied by explanatory text.
