    Description
Functional wood objects have existed from the beginning of man's first involvement with carving wood, probably since the dawn of civilization all over the world. Extant fragments indicate that in the Middle Kingdom, and more particularly during the eighteenth and nineteenth dynasties, cabinetmaking attained a new excellence. Chairs, chests, and other articles of furniture were often elaborately decorated with veneer, inlay, and marquetry - all techniques still widely used today. On a smaller scale, delightful trinket boxes, cosmetic spoons, and other toilet articles, gaming pieces, handles of sticks and whips were exquisitely cared in both wood and ivory and delicately painted and inlaid. "Creating Small Wood Objects As Functional Sculpture" captures both illustrations of marvelous carvings as well as offers ideas and instruction on how to do your own wood carvings. Read more
