The Plumas National Forest has something to offer everyone, whether you enjoy the solitude and challenge of remote areas or prefer developed recreational sites. You can find more than 1,000 miles of rivers and streams and over 100 tranquil lakes. Five large reservoirs support major developed recreational sites, and smaller, more rustic sites can also be found. Some of the most popular activities are scenic driving, camping, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, skiing, seasonal hunting, bird and animal watching, and holiday tree cutting. For the more adventurous, windsurfing, rock climbing, snow camping, and whitewater kayaking/rafting opportunities are available. If you prefer solitude to convenience, you may prefer to explore the backcountry and undeveloped areas of the Plumas.
